How The “We The Women Project” began

I remember the moment I heard the SCOTUS ruling was final; it’s burned into my body like trauma. I stood in my kitchen, my hand on the counter, steadying myself as if I had been hit with a wave from a blast. I looked up at the sky as if God could reverse this horrific reality. My heart sank; my tears flowed and the rage rose. For weeks after the news, I grieved. I railed. I ranted. I cried. I sank into a well of despair. I felt paralyzed yet I didn’t know what to do. What is needed, I knew, is money for the abortion providers who were still able to provide care, and protection of the access that remains in the states where decisions about access are being made.
I know first-hand the power of collective giving! I know the inspiration, comfort and motivation in community and I never underestimate the ability of women to get things done! We The Women was born from my past experience with the power of giving circles and a passionate desire to protect the right of women to make decisions about their own bodies and reproductive lives.
State legislatures have tremendous power to decide critical issues not only on abortion, but other issues as well, so our focus has to be more than funding direct abortion care; we have to support candidates who care about human rights, equality, social justice and our democracy.
The future of our country depends upon it. We The Women is an opportunity to take everything we feel about the SCOTUS ruling and all it implies and channel those feelings into collective action and donations.
We’re so much stronger together!
